Date of Next Meeting of Council

Councillor Dodge will present the following motion:

WHEREAS since the COVID-19 outbreak and the provincial and federal emergency declarations many staff and Councillors have been working from home;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the next Meeting of Council be rescheduled from Monday, June 8, 2020, at 6:30 p.m. to Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at 4:30 p.m.; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that staff provide appropriate notice to the public and the media.

11.2

Accessibility During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Councillor Siscoe will present the following motion:

WHEREAS people with disabilities are disproportionately exposed to the risks of COVID-19 and the hardships that this pandemic is causing;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City of St. Catharines' communications to citizens be accessible and adaptive to people with disabilities; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Council calls on the Provincial government to proactively enforce accessibility regulations during the pandemic and to actively consult with the disability community to learn what they are now facing and to help plan to address their urgent needs in this crisis; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Council calls on the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Colleges and Universities to create action plans and resources to help school boards, colleges and universities provide accessible online education programs so that hundreds of thousands of students with disabilities are not relegated to second-class status.

Youth Task Force

Councillor Townsend will present the following motion:

WHEREAS the work of the Youth Task Force to plan WE Day Community St. Catharines has been on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic; and

WHEREAS the COVID-19 pandemic has forced the cancellation of many large public events, including WE Day Community St. Catharines, scheduled for fall 2020 at the Meridian Centre;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the student members and student leaders membership of the Youth Task Force, as at May 20, 2020, be disbanded; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that staff be directed to begin recruitment for student leaders and student members for the Youth Task Force once, at the discretion of the CAO, there is sufficient evidence that it is safe to resume holding large public events.
